Since the newly redesigned Toyota Tacoma arrived at Philpott Toyota for 2016, off-roading enthusiasts in the Nederland, TX area have been asking us when they are going to see a TRD Pro edition.

The wait is finally over.

Toyota unveiled their carefully-protected secret at the Chicago Auto Show last week, and The Fast Lane Truck was there to get an in-depth look, and snag an interview with Chief Engineer Mike Sweers.

Sweers says he's a "manual guy," so he's pleased that the Tacoma TRD Pro is offered with both a six-speed manual, and a six-speed automatic. Though he prefers manual, Sweers praises the automatic transmission for its ideal blend of fuel economy with performance -- dropping into an efficient Atkinson cycle on the highway, and back to Otto cycle when torque is needed.

A proud enthusiast, Sweers also doesn't like to use Crawl Control, relying instead on his own driving ability. However, he recounts a time he was stuck in a rut, and thought he would need to back out and try again. Instead, he hit the Crawl Control button, and was amazed that the TRD Pro climbed out on its own.

Electronic aids like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select can give experienced off-road drivers an edge, and give confidence to "weekend warriors."

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro edition will be available through our new inventory fall 2016. Call us at 888-957-6526 to inquire.
